The Viper Room is a historic live music and party venue located in West Hollywood, just outside Los Angeles, California, USA. It was founded in 1993 by actor and musician Johnny Depp.
It is situated on the same street as The Roxy Theatre and Whisky A Go Go, two other iconic music spots.
In the year it opened, the club gained negative media attention when young actor River Phoenix, aged 23, died of a speedball overdose (a mixture of cocaine and heroin) on October 31.
Throughout its history, The Viper Room has hosted performances from rock legends such as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Stone Temple Pilots, Bruce Springsteen, Oasis, Courtney Love, Natalie Cole, Elvis Costello, Pearl Jam, The Strokes, Weezer, John Mayer, Iggy Pop, and Sheryl Crow.
With a capacity of 250 people, this small but iconic venue remains a place that primarily features underground rock artists and tribute bands.
The Viper Room does not serve food, only drinks. However, there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby on Sunset Blvd.
