One of the places you, as a rock fan, will want to visit in the capital of Germany is David Bowie’s former apartment in Berlin, located in the neighborhood of Schöneberg.
The British singer and songwriter lived in Berlin from 1976 to 1978 at number 155 Hauptstrasse, second floor.
During this time, he created his famous “Berlin Trilogy” of albums: Low (1977), Heroes (1977), and Lodger (1979). While not all of them were entirely made in Berlin, they deeply mark this phase of his career.
In 2016, the city of Berlin held an inauguration ceremony for a porcelain plaque on the building’s facade, commemorating Bowie’s strong connection to the city.
Interestingly, Bowie’s friend and fellow musician Iggy Pop also lived in the same building for a time. They were neighbors and often went out together, including taking car rides through East Berlin and nearby small villages.
Since Bowie’s death on January 10, 2016, the location has become a shrine for Bowie fans, who leave flowers and mementos outside the building.
His career spanned various phases and styles, with most of his life spent between England and the United States. But few periods were as transformative as the years he spent in Berlin, Germany.
