3Arena is Dublin’s premier multi-purpose venue, and since its opening in 1988 as Point Theatre, it has become one of the city’s most iconic live event locations.
Situated on the banks of the River Liffey, near Dublin Port, the arena is known for its versatility and ability to accommodate a wide variety of shows and events.
Originally a railway depot known as “The Point Depot,” the site was transformed into a concert venue, hosting some of the world’s biggest artists. Over time, the arena underwent impressive developments, including a major refurbishment in 2008, when it was rebranded as The O2. Following the acquisition of O2 by Three, the venue was renamed 3Arena in 2014.
With a capacity of 13,000, the 3Arena is an amphitheater-style auditorium that offers excellent visibility from every seat. Its adaptable structure allows the venue to host a range of events, from large-scale rock and heavy metal concerts to sporting events and comedy shows. The modular layout enables the creation of distinct areas, including the central floor, surrounded by two tiers of comfortable seating.
The 3Arena has welcomed an impressive lineup of international artists. U2, Iron Maiden, The Killers, Liam Gallagher, Paramore, Alter Bridge, and Volbeat are just a few of the big names that have graced its stage.
The area around the arena also offers much for visitors, with a growing selection of restaurants and hotels where guests can enjoy food and drinks before or after events.
Accessibility and Transport
Getting to the 3Arena is straightforward. The venue is well-served by Dublin’s public transport network, including the Luas Red Line, which stops right outside the arena. The DART and buses leave visitors within a 20-minute walk of the venue.
Additionally, the arena is approximately 2.3 km from the city center, and this distance can be covered on foot in 25-30 minutes or by taxi in about 10-15 minutes.
For those with reduced mobility, the 3Arena offers an accessible seating area. However, wheelchairs are not allowed on the ground floor during shows due to safety concerns.
Rules and Services
The 3Arena operates a cashless policy, accepting only credit and debit cards. Cash payments are not accepted.
Food and beverages cannot be brought into the arena, but there are several bars and food stands available on-site. Note that there is no cloakroom service.
Items such as bottles, cans, and selfie sticks are prohibited, and bags must not exceed the dimensions of 40 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm.
