The Hard Rock Cafe story began in London, where two American friends envisioned bringing a slice of Americana to the city. On June 14, 1971, the world’s first Hard Rock Cafe opened its doors on Old Park Lane.
Following live performances, including the iconic Paul McCartney and Wings, the tradition of decorating with artist memorabilia began in 1979. Eric Clapton, a regular at the cafe, famously marked his spot at the bar with a guitar. Shortly after, another guitar arrived with a note: “Mine’s as good as his! Love, Pete.” It was none other than Pete Townshend, guitarist of The Who, sparking a friendly rivalry that forever changed the Hard Rock Cafe.
Today, over 86,000 pieces of memorabilia adorn more than 180 cafes worldwide.
At this historic location, visitors can enjoy typical Hard Rock Cafe fare, including burgers, dishes, and drinks, amidst this iconic decor. You can also experience a complimentary guided tour of The Vault, a museum featuring iconic rock star memorabilia, open daily from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Entry to see the memorabilia is free. But you can make a reservation if you want to skip the lines for lunch or dinner at this Hard Rock Cafe.
In London, there’s another Hard Rock Cafe at Piccadilly Circus.
