Jimi Hendrix was born in Seattle on November 27, 1942, and grew up in the Central District, a multicultural neighborhood that, in the 1940s and 1950s, was the heart of Seattle’s Black community. It was in this environment that he first encountered music, long before setting out on a path that would make him one of the most influential guitarists of all time. He died in London on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27.
Jimi Hendrix Park is located right in this same area, at 2400 S Massachusetts St., next to the Northwest African American Museum. The proximity is intentional: the park was conceived as part of a broader cultural space that connects Hendrix’s story to the history of the community where he grew up.

The park features images of Hendrix, an enlarged reproduction of his signature, and guitar-themed elements spread throughout the space. A timeline traces his life—from his childhood in Seattle to the global reach of his music—serving as an accessible introduction for first-time visitors while still offering meaningful context for those already familiar with his legacy.

The purpose of the space goes beyond honoring Hendrix alone. It also works as an invitation to the local community, especially younger generations, to discover the story of someone who came from this very neighborhood and went on to reshape the course of music worldwide.
