The O2 Institute Birmingham, also known as Digbeth Institute, is a historic and beautiful music venue located in Birmingham, England, United Kingdom.
Originally built as a Congregational Methodist chapel in the early 20th century, the building was acquired by Birmingham City Council in 1955 and used as a civic hall before later becoming a live music venue.
By the 1990s, the O2 Institute had established itself as a key player in Birmingham’s music scene. Over the years, it has hosted major rock and heavy metal bands, including The Human League, Arctic Monkeys, The Cure, Jet, Tremonti, Cradle of Filth, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Teenage Fanclub, and The Vaccines.
The venue has a total capacity of 2,400 people, with its main hall accommodating around 1,500 spectators, while the other two smaller rooms offer a more intimate atmosphere.
Concertgoers can choose between standing floor space or balcony seating. Given its compact size, sightlines to the stage are excellent from various points.
Inside the O2 Institute, bars offer snacks and a variety of beverages.
For security reasons, only small bags are allowed inside the arena. The maximum size permitted is A4 dimensions: Height: 29.7 cm; Width: 21 cm; Depth: 15 cm. This bag policy is now common across many UK entertainment venues.
