The O2 Shepherds Bush Empire is a historic performance venue located in London, England, which first opened in 1903. It was a successful theatre until 1953.

After a period when the BBC used the space as a studio-theatre for TV production to prevent its closure, it was converted into a live music venue. The launch night was on March 12, 1994, featuring a performance by Soundgarden.

Over its history, the venue has hosted many memorable rock performances by artists like The Who, Prince, David Bowie, Blur, Muse, and The Rolling Stones.

Two particularly notable shows took place at the Shepherds Bush Empire: in 2001, Oasis celebrated their 10th anniversary with a concert at the venue, and Pearl Jam made their debut there in 2009.

Currently, this beautiful venue has a capacity of 2,000 people and hosts artists and bands from various genres, primarily rock, as well as comedy shows.

There are cloakroom facilities for coats, but large bags, including backpacks, are not allowed. Each person is permitted to bring only one small bag, which must not exceed the size of an A4 sheet.

London Rock Route

London, England, is one of the birthplaces of rock and has seen the rise of many bands that are part of music history, such as the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Pink Floyd, Queen, Iron Maiden, and The Police.

If you’re planning a trip to London, consider taking a rock-themed tour through the British capital.

The Royal Albert Hall and the Forum Kentish Town, for example, are some of the historic venues perfect for more intimate concerts. If you prefer a pub with live music, The Marquis is a great choice. You can also visit the very first Hard Rock Cafe, which opened in June 1971.

Many artists and bands have chosen London as the backdrop for album covers that have become rock history, like David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, The Beatles‘ Abbey Road, and Oasis‘ (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?.

For record and CD collectors, it’s worth adding a stop at Rough Trade and Reckless Records to your itinerary – two iconic stores in the city. There are also amazing shops for instruments and merchandise.
