Sifters Records is a traditional record store in the suburbs of Manchester, England.
Noel Gallagher, one of the founders of Oasis, was a customer of the store. In “Shakermaker,” the second track of Oasis’s debut album, Definitely Maybe (1994), the songwriter and guitarist even wrote about one of his memories in the store: “Mister Sifter sold me songs; When I was just sixteen.”
The small space, still owned by Mr. Sifter, continues to sell vinyl records and CDs. The catalog of new and used albums includes rock, soul, reggae, jazz, and many other music genres.
The store’s walls are entirely covered with posters of artists and bands – of course, it wouldn’t be complete without images of Oasis.
Some Oasis fans might even remember the store, as it was featured in the animated music video for “The Masterplan” (see at minute 4:50).
This year, local artist Pic.One.Art asked Mr. Sifter for permission to paint a mural dedicated to the band on the outside of the store, featuring a portrait of Noel and Liam Gallagher – a request that was granted. The mural also aims to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the band’s first album.
Sifters Records is open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and is closed on Sunday and Wednesday.
