Clarity Records is an independent music store located in Adelaide, Australia, that opened its doors on April 17, 2010.
Founded in response to the local music community’s needs, Clarity Records emerged after the closure of several music stores in Adelaide, filling a gap in the city’s independent music industry.
Since then, it has become a go-to place for local bands to sell their music, collectors to find rare items, and fans to discover new releases.
The store is known for its wide selection of vinyl records and for importing music from all around the world. With a collection that spans various musical genres like punk, hardcore, metal, indie, rock, jazz, and more, the store is a haven for music lovers.
Moreover, Clarity Records is dedicated to supporting the local music scene, offering a vast range of music from artists in Adelaide and across Australia.
Beyond Vinyl Records
The store also offers CDs, band merchandise, books, zines, DVDs, and both new and second-hand products. Clarity Records serves as a cultural hub and a record label, releasing and distributing music through MGM Distribution and on digital platforms.
Founders of Clarity Records
Clarity Records is owned and operated by Footy (Matt) and Laura Horvath, both of whom have a long history in the local music community. Laura and Footy have been passionate about music since childhood and have extensive experience managing record labels, organizing shows and tours, and promoting bands.
Footy is a member of the band Stolen Youth, formed in 2000, and has also played in several other local bands over the years.
Before opening the store, he worked for nearly five years at Big Star Records, another independent music store in Adelaide, until its closure in 2010.
A Day Of Clarity Festival
Clarity Records is also responsible for the annual music festival A Day Of Clarity. Launched in 2015, this free festival celebrates local and international music, bringing a variety of artists and genres to the Adelaide audience every year.
Clarity Records Expansion
In 2021, Clarity Records underwent a major renovation to expand its space, doubling in size and allowing for an even greater selection of vinyl and music products.
This expansion reflects the store’s ongoing commitment to providing a unique experience for all music lovers, offering even more diversity and options for its customers.
