Electric Lady Studios is the oldest recording studio in New York City, USA, and was conceived by Jimi Hendrix and his manager Michael Jeffery.
After purchasing The Generation nightclub—a place Hendrix often frequented and participated in jam sessions—the guitarist was convinced by advisors Eddie Kramer and Jim Marron to convert the space into a professional studio. The project was designed by architect John Storyk and sound engineer Eddie Kramer, and it was inaugurated in 1970.
The facility features four studios that have hosted major artists for album recordings and live sessions, including Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Patti Smith, The Kills, Adele, Taylor Swift, and Bleachers.
Out of respect for the studio’s clients, guided tours are not offered at Electric Lady Studios. However, it’s worth visiting the location in Greenwich Village to see and photograph its iconic facade.
