Espaço Unimed (formerly Espaço das Américas) is one of São Paulo‘s largest indoor concert venues, with a capacity of 8,000 people. Ghost, Edguy, Noel Gallagher, Alter Bridge, Evanescence, Slash, Thirty Seconds to Mars, and Gojira have all played here, among many other names that make this venue a regular stop for anyone following rock and heavy metal in the city.

If this is your first time at Espaço Unimed, the main thing to keep in mind is the size of the venue. It’s a big room, with pillars that can get in the way of your view in certain spots, and sound that varies depending on where you’re standing. None of this will ruin your night, but it’s worth planning ahead, especially when picking your section and deciding what time to arrive.

What it’s like to see a show at Espaço Unimed

Espaço Unimed is a multi-use venue with a standing floor area and an upper level, which holds the mezzanine (mezanino) and the VIP box (camarote).

The stage was designed to offer good visibility from different angles, but in practice, the venue’s generous size and a few pillars can get in the way of the view at certain points.

Sound also varies quite a bit depending on where you’re standing: areas near the walls tend to be louder, while the back of the room is a bit more muffled. If you’re sensitive to loud sound, it’s worth bringing high-fidelity earplugs (the kind that lower the volume without losing clarity, which helps avoid that annoying ringing the next day).

The restrooms are well regarded at this venue. There’s also a small side area, usually set up for merchandise and video screens, which works well as a place to catch your breath during sold-out shows, as does the lobby between the entrance and the main room, where the sound is quieter.

I was recently at the Angra show there, and the place was packed. Early in the show, I was in the middle of the room, close to the walls and near the divide between the premium and general floor areas. The sound was so loud it became genuinely uncomfortable. A few songs in, I had to move to the back. I chose to trade visibility for better sound.

Sections and seating at Espaço Unimed

Premium floor (pista premium, when available): the section closest to the stage. Worth it if you can spend a bit more and want to be right up front.

General floor (pista comum): a good value option, but pay attention to where you stand within the room. Areas too close to the walls can have louder-than-ideal sound.

Mezzanine and VIP box (mezanino and camarote): the best choice if you’d rather watch from above, with a panoramic view and fewer crowds. Depending on the show, seating can be standing or seated. These areas may be available on the sides and at the back of the venue, depending on the event.

Because the venue has a flexible layout, it can be set up with just a standing floor, with tables, or with a mix of floor space and seating. The section layout changes quite a bit from show to show.

How to get to Espaço Unimed

Espaço Unimed is located at Rua Tagipuru, 795, in the Barra Funda neighborhood, on the west side of São Paulo.

If you’re taking public transport

Palmeiras-Barra Funda metro station (Red Line 3) is just 500 meters from the venue. It’s very easy to get to and from Espaço Unimed this way.

Just pay attention to what time the metro stops running on the day of your show — it’s possible the show will end after the station has already closed.

If you’re driving

Espaço Unimed doesn’t have its own parking lot, but there are several options nearby. The venue officially recommends:

  • Trevo Estacionamentos, at Rua Tagipuru, 931
  • Trevo Estacionamentos, at Rua Tagipuru, 835 / Av. Francisco Matarazzo, 664
  • Brasil Park, at Rua Tagipuru, 733

There are plenty of other parking options in the surrounding area as well. On show days, prices typically run around R$70 (in Brazilian reais. Worth checking the current exchange rate before you go).

Hotels near Espaço Unimed São Paulo

Espaço Unimed is located in the western zone of São Paulo. If you’re coming from another city or country, staying nearby can be worth it. Besides making it easier to get to and from the venue (on foot, by metro, or with a short rideshare trip), it’s also a good way to soak up the atmosphere as fans and musicians arrive throughout the day. Here’s where to stay near Espaço Unimed:

What you can (and can’t) bring into Espaço Unimed

Not allowed: professional or semi-professional cameras (with large lenses, external zoom, or interchangeable lenses), camcorders, audio recorders, and laser pointers; tripods, selfie sticks, umbrellas, motorcycle helmets, flags or banners with poles; chains, belts, sports team jerseys, newspapers, and magazines; alcoholic beverages, toxic substances, fireworks, and flammable materials; sharp objects or anything that could cause injury (bladed or firearm weapons); glass cups, glass in general, aluminum cans, and outside food.

Allowed: medication, as long as accompanied by an original prescription in the ticket holder’s name; special food for severe medical dietary restrictions, with a detailed medical report.

Facilities and accessibility at Espaço Unimed

Espaço Unimed has accessible entrances, ramps, elevators, adapted restrooms, and a dedicated area for guests with disabilities and their companions. Non-wheelchair users with disabilities can buy tickets for any available section; wheelchair users can buy floor tickets and, if they choose, use the reserved area marked on the venue map (an area also available to any guest with a disability). Guide dogs are allowed, provided they’re properly identified and documented.

For guests’ convenience, the venue offers a coat/bag check. Since capacity is limited, it’s best to arrive early and confirm the price and availability directly at the entrance.

Although the venue has a bar with plenty of food and drink options, if you’re looking to save some money, there are also lots of food and drink stalls right outside Espaço Unimed. If you’re planning to arrive well ahead of time, it’s also worth knowing that Bourbon Shopping mall is just 1.5 km away (a solid option for a bite to eat before the show).

On show days, doors open two hours before showtime. That’s a good benchmark for planning your arrival with some buffer.

Tickets: how to buy safely

Every event at Espaço Unimed has an official link that redirects to the partner box office handling that show (such as Ticket360, Eventim, or Ticketmaster Brazil, depending on the event).

The venue’s official website works as a showcase for the schedule, with direct access to these official ticketing channels.

Common mistakes to avoid at Espaço Unimed

Choosing a section based on price alone: if your budget allows, it’s worth considering the premium floor or the upper areas (mezzanine/VIP box). It makes a real difference to the experience at Espaço Unimed.

Ignoring how sound changes depending on where you stand: if you’re sensitive to loud sound, you may prefer to stay away from the side walls. Bringing high-fidelity earplugs (which lower the volume slightly without muffling the sound) is always a good idea.

Counting on Uber or a taxi right after the show without a plan: the crowd leaving the venue can make it hard to find a rideshare near the main exit. Be patient, or take the metro instead.

Is Espaço Unimed worth it?

For major international rock and metal tours, Espaço Unimed is one of São Paulo’s most established venues, thanks to its easy access via public transport, solid bars and restrooms, and a stage designed for good visibility. The size of the venue just calls for a bit more attention when choosing your section, to make sure you get the best possible experience.
