The Joe Strummer Memorial is a mural located in the cultural East Village neighborhood of New York City, honoring the leader of The Clash.
Many fans of the musician and the British band visit the intersection of East 7th Street and Avenue A, next to Niagara, a bar Strummer frequented, to see and photograph the work by artists Zephyr and Dr. Revolt.
The mural, in addition to featuring the singer’s image, includes the phrases “The Future is Unwritten” and “Know Your Rights,” the title of the first track on the 1982 album Combat Rock.
Joe Strummer passed away in 2002 at the age of 50 due to congenital heart disease.
