Neues Ufer is a historic cafe and bar in Berlin, Germany, originally opened in 1977 under the name Anders Ufer.
David Bowie was one of the illustrious patrons of Neues Ufer, making it one of his favorite spots when he lived in the city during the 1970s. Today, there are references such as photos and memorabilia honoring the British artist.
Located in the Schöneberg district – just steps away from Bowie’s apartment – Neues Ufer was Europe’s first cafe for gay and lesbian patrons. With its large windows opening onto the street, it was visible to all who passed by.

All those years ago! I had a partner Phillip and we used to do shows in Anders Ufer at the time David Bowie was loving just a few doors away in Iggy Pop's apartment. We had bit parts in the film David was making with Marlene Dietrich , " Just a Gigolo".. For me those days for various reasons are some of the most important in.my life. . My Dear friend Sandra moved there too to be part of it.
