Rory Gallagher Corner

In the heart of Dublin’s bustling Temple Bar district lies a powerful tribute to one of Ireland’s greatest guitarists: Rory Gallagher.

At Rory Gallagher Corner, rock and blues fans can appreciate a replica of the iconic Fender Stratocaster guitar once owned by the legendary musician.

Originally, Rory’s own guitar was hung on a brick wall at Meeting House Square, but over time, the Dublin weather took its toll, and it was eventually removed by his brother. Today, a replica stands in its place, prominently displayed above the entrance to Meeting House Square on Essex Street East.

Who was Rory Gallagher?

Rory Gallagher was an Irish guitar virtuoso and singer, born in 1948 in Ballyshannon, Donegal. Known for his love of blues rock and his self-taught skills, he first gained recognition with the band Taste before launching a successful solo career.

Throughout his life, Rory rejected mainstream fame, staying true to his raw, authentic music without relying on studio gimmicks. His iconic worn-out Fender Stratocaster became a symbol of his artistry.

Gallagher influenced legendary musicians like Slash, The Edge, and Brian May, and his live performances were celebrated for their intense energy and emotion.

He passed away in 1995 following complications from a liver transplant. The monument honoring his life and legacy was unveiled in 2006, with U2’s guitarist The Edge and Dublin’s Lord Mayor in attendance.

Since then, this corner has become a must-visit for music lovers exploring Temple Bar.
