The stage name of U2’s lead singer, Bono, has its roots in Dublin, Ireland, specifically in a store called Bonavox, which still stands in the same location today.
The story goes that Bono’s school friend, Guggi, suggested the name “Bono Vox” for Paul Hewson, inspired by the Bonavox hearing aid store located on North Earl Street, near O’Connell Street.
Interestingly, the store is still open, making it a significant landmark for fans of the band and Bono himself.
The name was eventually shortened to “Bono,” marking the beginning of his transformation into one of the most iconic figures in rock music.
