  • Getting here: 23 St Station (1-minute walk)

The Hotel Chelsea, located in Manhattan near the Chelsea neighborhood, is a true legend in music history. Founded in 1884, this historic New York hotel has hosted numerous writers, filmmakers, artists, and music personalities.

Jack Kerouac, Mark Twain, Stanley Kubrick, Frida Kahlo, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, Sid Vicious, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix—all have walked its halls, leaving their mark on the hotel’s storied past.

The Hotel Chelsea is renowned not only for its iconic Victorian-style architecture with twelve floors but especially for its captivating tales. Bob Dylan’s room door was famously sold for an astonishing $100,000. Madonna photographed part of her book Sex here. Leonard Cohen and Janis Joplin had a romance at this hotel. Iggy Pop stayed in room 126. And tragically, Nancy Spungen, Sid Vicious’s girlfriend, died in room 100.

Many songs have been written about the hotel, cementing its status as an icon of New York’s music scene.

For music enthusiasts, a stay at the Hotel Chelsea is more than just accommodation—it’s an immersive experience in its rich history.
