One of the most tragic moments in music history took place at the Dakota Building in New York City, USA: John Lennon was assassinated at the entrance archway of the building where he lived.
The 40-year-old English musician was shot by a fan on the night of December 8, 1980, as he was arriving home. At the time of the shooting, the ex-Beatle was with his wife, Yoko Ono. The couple had been living in the city since the early 1970s.
Located at 1 W 72nd St, facing Central Park, the Dakota was one of New York’s first luxury apartment buildings.
Nearby is the Strawberry Fields Memorial, a beautiful garden within Central Park dedicated to John Lennon, where the Imagine mosaic is also located.
